I'm still catching up on cakes I've done in the past. This cake was made for sweet David, our best friends' son. You could say that David really pushed my baby fever over the edge...there are almost exactly 9 1/2 mos between David and Oliver!! :)
I had so much fun doing this. It was still one of my first cakes. When I used my Pooh shaped pan for Oliver's birthday, all the details imprinted onto the cake when I flipped it out. When I flipped out this cake, NONE of the details came out!! So it was all free-handed. I was nervous about how it would look but it turned out well and he loved it, so that was all that mattered! I love the way the checkered flag sides turned out.

Happy Valentine's Day!!
My FIL asked me to make a chocolate cake for him and he always lets me do whatever as far as decorating them. I love it because it gives me a chance to try new things and he always appreciates it. I love having the chance to add to my "portfolio."
I've never attempted a lace type of design before. First of all, I should get something to help mark garland if I'm gonna keep doing it! I just eyeballed the spacing so they arent all even. But it was a lot of fun.

Catch-up
Wow, my third post for the day! I'm attempting to make this blog a little more personable...I don't have a lot of time to bake/decorate so I won't be able to post often, but when I do get the time to decorate, I want to post more. :)
This cake was made for new years eve for Jay's gran's birthday. (His dad, my father-in-law, ordered it for his mom, hence it saying "Happy Birthday Mom".) It was an 8" round chocolate cake with IndyDebi's buttercream. I wrote a Bible verse on the side from the book of Proverbs: "Her children will rise up and call her blessed." I love that verse. Actually, I love all of Proverbs. Oliver (my almost 18-month-old) and I read a chapter from Proverbs in the morning during our breakfast.
Gran loved the cake and that made me so happy :)))
Leftovers...
Jay loves my white cake, so I decided to make him one and use leftover icing I had in the fridge. I really had no vision for this cake other than the big swirl on the top. About halfway through Oliver decided he needed to help so it was quickly finished on the side. Oh well, it was fun and Jay loved it!

Happy Birthday Liam!

My nephew Liam will be 4 this Thursday! Its so hard to believe how big he is getting. He and Oliver look like they could be brothers. Everyone was commenting at the party how Oliver looks just like how Liam did at this age. Liam loves Thomas the Train so I made him a Thomas cake. I can't take credit for the creativity though, I got the idea from a cake on cakecentral.com. It was so fun to do! Its the first time I've done a cake for them so it was very special to me. :)

Happy Holidays!
Its been a busy, busy month! I made many cakes this month with Christmas and of course Jenni and Justin's wedding cake. Jay's work also did a few different charity bake sales, and these are pictures of the three cakes I decorated for those. I'm so proud to say that together these 3 cakes raised over $200 for charity!

Mom's Get-Well Cake
This was an 8" round cake I made for my mom last month when she had knee surgery. It was a lemon cake torted with raspberry filling and iced in buttercream. This was the first time I'd attempted any scroll work and I really liked the way it turned out. I definitely want to do more cakes like this! As much fun as fondant is I really do enjoy buttercream also. My mom was thrilled with the cake so that was what really mattered.

Autumn!
This week I'm making this cake again for the 3rd time. Its turned out to be pretty popular! The last time I made it I also did matching cupcakes. Soon it'll be time for Christmas and winter cakes but for the next couple of weeks I'm enjoying the fall colors and designs. The cake is an 8 inch round, half chocolate and half white. Covered and decorated in buttercream.

Every Blessing
The name for my blog came to me one day when I was thinking about cake decorating. My interest in cake decorating started last summer when I was brainstorming for Oliver's birthday party. I really wanted to make his cake but questioned whether I had the ability or not. I posted on facebook something about wondering if I could do it or not and my good friend Lorie responded with something along the lines of "Of course you can! You can do all things through the Lord!"
Every time I decorate a cake I take the time to pray and ask God's blessing for the cake to turn out well. Any talent I have is purely God-given! And every blessing He pours out, I'll turn back to praise! The blessings he continues to give our family are amazing.
And so the title "Blessed Cakes" came about. *Someday* if I'm meant to have a "real" cake business, I'd love to call it Blessed Cakes.
All three of these cakes were for Oliver's birthday party. One was an 8" round cake, another was made using a Wilton shaped pan, and the little Pooh was made using the mini stand-up bear pan from Wilton. Oliver loved his little 3D smash cake!

Hello!

I'm so excited to be starting a new blog. I hope to be able to use this to share my journey of learning to decorate cakes! Please feel free to leave comments, suggestions, anything. I look forward to hearing from you! I have not always been the best with blogging but I am going to try hard to keep up on this one.
Well I think its appropriate to start this blog by including a picture of the first decorated cake I did. This was done for my husband Jay and my birthday this past August (2009). Our birthdays are only 1 day apart! I call this my 2 a.m. Buttercream Cake. I was attempting to make marshmellow fondant (MMF) but it failed miserably! So at 2 a.m. I finally said forget the fondant and decided to decorate in buttercream. I promised Jay that next year we will have a less girly birthday cake!
This was an 8" round chocolate cake decorated all in buttercream.
